The NARAS Foundation, created by the National Trustees in 1977, oversees
such Recording Academy programs as "The Grammy in the Schools" and
"MUSICARES," as well as the development of a NARAS museum. The Recording
Academy is also a co-founder of the National Commission on a NARAS
museum, and it remains at the forefront of issues involving the recording
industry and its members, such as labeling legislation, protection of
intellectual property rights, home taping, record piracy, and artistic
exchange programs, as well as environmental and censorship concerns.
HOW ARE THE GRAMMYS WON?
This simplified description illustrates the various stages of the Grammy
process. The process begins with the entries submitted by members and
record companies, which are them screened for eligibility and category
placement. The Academy's active members, all involved in the creative and
technical processes of recording, then participate in (1) the nominating
process that determines the five finalists in each category; and (2) the
final voting process which determines the Grammy winners.
ENTERING
NARAS members, plus record companies, enter recordings and
music videos, released during the eligibility year, which they
consider worthy of receiving a Grammy.
